Clean filter tested candles!

Praise the Lord for that!

Miranda Kerr was recently on the Behind Her Empire podcast with Yasmin Nori and said “my faith in God and…listening to that inner voice” along with “the power of prayer…I pray every day and before I eat my food and with my children and before they go to bed and before they eat, we all hold hands and pray.” Praise the Lord! (*Side note - in my Bible Study group they talked about actually saying “Praise the Lord!” out loud. While I feel this daily, I don’t usually use those specific words. I love God with my whole heart but I am not the most comfortable talking about God out loud. Working on that and thankful for examples of others who do so as well.) A huge part of why I’ve been wanting to create Otho is to give God the glory for anything that happens along the way. I love hearing other people in the beauty industry speaking about God.

My dad and I recently flew out to Florida to pitch launching Otho to HSN. So many prayers and thoughts went in to that meeting. It was the first time I was away from my kids for a trip since having my son, and I felt such a peace in my heart even though I was excited and nervous and full of thoughts.

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” In a moment when I had so many feelings I truly felt a peace that felt like I was taking a step that God was leading. And if it wasn’t the right step I honestly don’t want it. It feels good to only want what God has planned for me no matter what that might be; trusting Him to know better than I could plan for myself. Taking the next step and trusting God with the outcome.

On the way home I grabbed the New Beauty magazine, and inside was an article mentioning God! Seeing God’s name printed in a beauty magazine made me so happy.

So did reading through all of the New Beauty Awards. There were pages and pages of like looking products with big brand logos and bright colors. In the background were these beautiful faceted glass objects with light refracting through. My dream is to have Otho’s products be those beautiful light refracting items someday - no giant brands but something that will add beauty to your counter. There seems to be a white space for non branded, beautiful glass.

Here is one of my favorite mockups from our lovely Creative Director (her work is seriously magical and feels like a beauty fairy godmother; I am SO thankful for her) - wouldn’t this look beautiful on that magazine page🤍 Imagine a little silver tray with your three favorite products. When you open the box there’s an encouraging Bible verse and a little verse notecard that’s got a beautiful image and is unbranded so it can live on your counter or on your pinboard or even in your purse like a piece of art. Good products that spread the Good News.

Right now I’m taking a break and resting after the work that went into that meeting. Feeling thankful that the buyers were interested and wanted to learn more, and praying for the next steps of following up with the info they need.

If you’re reading this, would love prayers for wisdom in the next steps and to enjoy the process along the way. Even more so prayers for learning how to truly enjoy being home with my kids while taking steps towards this dream. I’ve been seeing more of the sweet little moments lately instead of feeling overwhelmed by the work involved with taking care of everything, and it’s felt so good to see the joy in their sweet little faces throughout the day. Praise the Lord for that!

^^When we invent in garden we call our first mockups “Home Depot Prototypes” because often we use other items to prove the concept of our ideas. Like when I invented the metal garden hose, our team bought metal shower hose pieces and strung them together to prove the concept that is now the Metal Garden Hose. In beauty the term didn’t crossover as easily, calling this a Proof of Concept instead:) I found whiskey decanters that looked like my packaging goal, filled them with our lab samples, tried my best at engraving little brass tags (a nod at someday engraving caps) and wrapped them in soft linen with a sweet cotton bow. Elevated Home Depot Prototypes ;)

^I love my blue and white dishes, wrapping a few samples in blue and white beeswax wrap kept the glass samples safe while adding something I love into the meeting. The buyers loved this material - maybe someday for a holiday gift set we can use this concept!

My mom gave me this bag for Christmas years ago when we were working on our first candle launch:)

^The note still inside - thankful for a wise Mother who loves God and is lots of fun (and Dad too!)🤍

So many little lights from so many people filled with so many thoughts and dreams. Praying to be a little light in all of this.
