What are your thoughts on tallow? The first time I used tallow was when I was pregnant with my first and hoping to avoid stretch marks at all costs. Never did I ever think I'd be rubbing beef fat on my belly, but never say never.
Fast forward and my second sweet little one has very itchy skin and eczema. Back to beef tallow. But this time instead of cringing I actually reached for it myself as well. There is something nourishing that I feel like my skin craves about tallow balms. Often lotions leave me feeling like I need more but not in a good way, like it didn't do its job well enough. Tallow balms feel more fulfilling and truly moisturizing and wholesome. Wholesome meaning my skin feels wholly moisturized or honestly 'fed' until the next time I take a bath or a shower. Its like whole food for the skin vs cheap filler ingredients.
All that to say I've got big tallow dreams and big tallow thoughts over here. Tallow is definitely trending in the marketplace through direct to consumer brands, but I haven't seen it in any of the main retailers. Is it because it's too out there? There definitely is a cruelty free and vegan awareness in beauty, and I appreciate the value of fair treatment of animals. But I also am not choosing to live a vegan lifestyle. So I feel ok opening up to other beauty options that are in line with the choices I make for my food. I look for fully grass-fed and grass finished beef, so using other parts of the beef that would otherwise have been wasted as nourishment for both my body and my skin feels ok to me.
Would you be open to trying tallow? Have you already tried it yet? Now I've got 'I'm gunna live where the green grass grows' stuck in my head.
